Commodity Food Program

The Commodity Food Program is a program that allows schools that are participating in the National School Lunch Program to “purchase” USDA food items. Sites that participate in the program are allotted an entitlement, or specific dollar amount, based on their enrollment and then use this entitlement to shop for USDA food items like: vegetables, fruits, grains, and meats. The Commodity Food Program helps offset the food costs of the National School Lunch Program. Schools can still participate in the Commodity Food Program if they work with a Food Service Management Company like Kilimanjaro Catering. Our staff will work with you to order the foods for the following school year, which will be delivered to our kitchen on a monthly basis. Then at the end of the year you will receive credit on your invoice for the foods that were used.
